In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate.
Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,
Allah Most High tells us about His Beloved Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)
“If you follow him, you will be guided.” [Qur’an, 24.54]
It is understood from the language of the verse, as the Qur’anic commentators say, that the sense of tahtadu (‘guided’) here is ‘guided completely.’
Abu Uthman (Allah have mercy on him) said,
“Whoever holds themselves to the sunna, shall speak with wisdom; and whoever holds to their whims shall speak with reprehensible innovations.” [Isma`il Haqqi, Tafsir Ruh al-Bayan]
The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said,
“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should say the good or remain silent.” [Bukhari and Muslim]
This is the criterion for anyone who seeks to speak or act:
if it is good, go ahead; if it isn’t, don’t; if you are unsure, weigh it on the scales of the Sacred Law—ask yourself: is what I’m saying or doing pleasing to Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)?
And Allah alone gives success.
Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Knowledge is only through study." While some knowledge can be gained from reading or casually listening to lectures, the best means to gain knowledge is through finding a qualified teacher and then setting up a systematic program of learning. Picking up a book or reading an article and trying to figure things out on our own is no substitute for learning from someone who has a direct link to our living tradition.
