Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani
We have been invited to a Muslim brothers place for BBQ (only meat) in honor of us. The host at one point mentioned that they eat Kosher meat from a store. I told them Kosher is not halal but they insist that it is (as the store told them they (Jews) slaughter with pronouncing bismillah too??!!!!!). At these condition what one should do to avoid haram, even though the invitation is from a Muslim. Should we accept this invitation?
There are two considerations regarding the consumption of kosher meat:
In terms of permissibility, the fatwa is that kosher meat is in itself halal, as such meat fulfills the conditions of a valid slaughtering (zabiha).
In terms of appropriateness, most major scholars tell us that given the nature of Zionist oppression of our Palestinian brethren, it is our duty to boycott the products of those who support the state of Israel .
As explained in Shaykh Muhammad ibn Adam’s answer [see in full in Related Q&A]:
“Kosher meat, would be however, in itself permitted. Top scholars across the Muslim world… say that Muslims should avoid Kosher meat due to the Zionist oppression in Palestine .”
And Allah alone gives success.
